Many students experience difficulty transitioning from elementary school to secondary school. Often, these difficulties are resolved within a few months, as students begin to acclimatize to the new environment. Changing timetables, finding their locker, meeting so many new teachers and all the different expectations, personalities and teaching styles that their teachers may have can be disconcerting.
If your child experiences on-going anxiety about his or her ability to cope at school, or if his or her marks plummet dramatically, or his confidence seems totally gone, you may need to speak to a counselor. Fun-Wey recommends the services of Johanna Simmons, a North Vancouver Family Counselor who specializes in dealing with teenagers and their families.
